Dynamics of complex interfaces. II. Diffusion and morphology

چکیده
In this contribution, we theoretically investigate the isothermal mass transport of a simple fluid into a blend of two immiscible Newtonian polymers. Using internal state variables, we derive a nonlinear formulation that addresses the effects of the diffusion/interface coupling on both the mass transport as well as on the morphology of the interface. The approach uses a scalar and a second-order tensor to directly track the dynamic changes of the size and shape of the interface. The mass flux governing equation includes new terms that lead to non-Fickian behavior attributed to the viscoelatic contribution of the interface. In turn, the size and shape of the interface are modified by diffusion. In one-dimensional analysis, we examine the nature of propagation of both nonlinear hyperbolic and linear dispersive waves. Explicit formulas for the characteristic speed, phase velocity, and attenuation are provided. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1571053#

Dynamics of complex interfaces. I. Rheology, morphology, and diffusion
In this paper, we investigate, on two levels of description, the isothermal coupling: ~i! between rheology and morphology in immiscible blends ~A/B! and ~ii! among rheology, morphology, and diffusion in mixtures consisting of an immiscible blend ~A/B! and one simple fluid, s. The interface separating the phases A and B is described, on the kinetic level by an area density distribution function ...
متن کاملMolecular dynamics simulation of a binary mixture lubricant for use in hard disk interfaces
In Hard Disk Drives (HDD), it is necessary to decrease the Flying Height (FH) between the head and the disk (currently, FH is around 3-5 nm) so as to increase recording densities. Retaining the solid lubricant has become a difficult proposition owing to intermittent contact between the surfaces. ZTMD and Z are used as solid lubricant to lubricate these interfaces. In this paper, the behavior of...
متن کاملSolid state synthesis of NiO nanoparticles from [(1,2-bis(2-formyl-3-methoxyphenyl)propane)nickel(II)] chloride
In this paper, nickel oxide (NiO) nanoparticles have been prepared by solid state thermal decomposition of an acyclic nickel(II) complex (1,2-bis(2-formyl-3-methoxyphenyl)propane)nickel(II) chloride, [NiL]Cl2, in an electrical furnace at optimal temperature, 450 ºC for 3.5 h. The nickel(II) complex is obtained via solid state synthesis using nickel(II) chloride and tetradentate O4 acyclic ligan...
متن کاملA Kinetic Investigation of a Carrier-Mediated Transport through a Bulk Liquid Membrane
The kinetics of the potassium thiocyanate transport mediated by dicyclohexyl-18-crown-6 (L) through a bulk liquid membrane is studied experimentally and theoretically. The proposed model is based on the assumption of a pure diffusion of the complex salt [K·L]+SCN¯ through the liquid membrane stagnant films at the interfaces. It illustrates the ...
